Making It!

Another view from
the main entrance to the exhibition showing 'Norma' the large
comic/erotic puppet - "Turn the handle, pull my strings and
I'll dance for you". These photographs were taken at the end
of the six week exhibition period and Norma was very much the
worse for wear. Audiences and visitors queued to operate her. Daily
gyrating for the public ended up with Norma losing an arm! The piece
was made by Jo Smith who was in the first cohort of students on the
course graduating in 1992, thus Norma is really quite elderly now. Jo
has continued her work with puppetry and now has her own company touring
France (where she completed a three year post graduate course in puppetry)
The large dark grey
figure is a 1.5 times life sculpt by Corin Hardy who graduated in July
1997. Corin has recently received a total grant of £7,500 to fund
the completion of an animated film begun at College as well as taking
on work for the Tussauds Group as a story board artist.
